Heeding the call of the government for private corporations to lend a helping hand to the thousands of flood victims in Johor, YTL Corp has donated RM3 million the single largest donation by a corporate body to the NST Flood Fund Victims Assistance Fund.

YTL Corp Managing Director, Tan Sri (Dr.) Francis Yeoh presented the cheque to New Straits Times Deputy Chairman, Datuk Kalimullah Hassan and New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Syed Faisal Albar at the YTL headquarters.

Applauding NST for their efforts in highlighting the floods in Johor, Yeoh said that this aspect of compassion shown by Malaysians must be encouraged and urged other corporate bodies to do the same and come forward to help the flood victims.

I'm just doing my small part for society and to give with a generous spirit. On behalf of YTL and its employees, we send our condolence to the victims. I hope this donation will help to ease their pain in a small way. Due to the floods, some Malaysian citizens are not enjoying daily comfort as they should be, said Yeoh.

A great supporter of the environment, Yeoh added that the cause of the floods are due to the effects of global warming, and he could not just sit by without doing anything.

I am a tree-hugger and a greeny. That is why we are in the midst of planning to screen An Inconvenient Truth at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre. This movie will give Malaysians a chance to understand the negative effects of global warming. Malaysians should be more aware and take note of it. I would like to see Malaysia to be a champion for the environment.

An Inconvenient Truth is a documentary film about climate change, specifically global warming, directed by Davis Guggenheim and starring former US Vice President Al Gore. The documentary is based largely on a multimedia presentation that Gore developed over many years as part of an educational campaign on global warming.

In this movie, he is seen as never before in the media - funny, engaging, open and downright on fire about getting the surprisingly stirring truth about what he calls our "planetary emergency" out to ordinary citizens before it's too late.

With wit, smarts and hope, An Inconvenient Truth ultimately brings home Gore's persuasive argument that we can no longer afford to view global warming as a political issue rather, it is the biggest moral challenges facing our global civilisation.
