YTL Learning Academy

People    31 October 2022

YTL Learning Academy came about in March 2020, during Malaysia’s first Movement Control Order (MCO 1.0) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the country went into lockdown and employees were instructed to work from home, YTL Construction saw this as a great opportunity to keep staff engaged and productive through a series of daily online training courses, covering both technical and non-technical subjects.

YTL Learning Academy was officially launched in July 2021 with a physical hub in the new YTL Construction headquarters and a free online platform was created to facilitate technical training as well as to offer soft skills, language programmes and recreational classes for all employees, both onsite and offsite. In line with the company’s vision to become the top construction company in Malaysia, the YTL Learning Academy sets out a mission of cultivating a culture of constant personal and professional learning and growth by providing the necessary tools and support to shape a skilled and empowered workforce.

YTL Learning Academy focuses not only on upskilling employees but also regularly assessing training needs in order to provide the training best suited to each employee to further enhance competency and work output quality. Employees who are passionate about training would undergo a comprehensive ‘Train the Trainer’ programme to mould them into credible and eligible trainers capable of training other staff members and external individuals/parties in the future.

Going as far as making language programmes available to all employees, the YTL Learning Academy is putting a high emphasis on effective communication by ensuring employees are well-versed and of world-class quality. With Invested in Building Talent as its tagline, the YTL Learning Academy revolves around creating a love for knowledge amongst the workforce and constant self-development.

To date, 45% of YTL Construction’s employees attended the courses offered through the YTL Learning Academy and completed their training KPI hours for the year, with most class sign-ups resulting in full capacity.
