Equal Accessibility to Education

COMMUNITIES    2 November 2018

54C was once the headquarters of Syarikat Pembenaan Yeoh Tiong Lay (SPYTL) and markedly, the first YTL property acquisition in the center of Bukit Bintang back in 1968. Since the opening of YTL Plaza, that housed more of YTL’s businesses that were growing rapidly, it had been left unoccupied. In November 2015, 54C was converted into a community learning space for underprivileged children, as well as kids of YTL employees, putting Nelson Mandela's popular quote – "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" - into practice where all children were empowered with education. 54C's enrichment programmes are conducted on a weekly basis, covering English, Mathematics, Ukulele, Computer Skills and many more, which help to equip children with soft skills, and which are believed to enhance academic performance.

The enrichment programmes are extremely popular among the children as the programmes saw a total of 2,900 participants for each programme and daily attendance of around 20 students for each class in 2018. Since the launch of 54C, the programmes have supported underprivileged children from 15 community-based schools and over 40 volunteer teachers.

In addition, 54C organised school holiday programmes and recorded the participation of 75 children of YTL employees. A series of interactive sessions were conducted for fun learning, skills acquiring and friend making. All the children enjoyed the fun programmes.
